Take a Hike, Diabadass

Everyone who enters this In The Wild community challenge is given free access to the Take a Hike, Diabetes self-guided program.

Your answers to the questions such as what gear do you bring along or how do you find healing in nature are used to create community-inspired resources and worksheets. Thank you.

Some Tips for Hiking

  • Start small and then build up
  • Set a timer on your phone during hikes to check your blood sugar, stop for water, and fuel up (30 minutes used by Erik Douds)
  • Honey and peanut butter are two items carried together to offer high-carb and high-fat, respectively, to keep blood sugars maintained on long hikes
  • Ask your friends and family on hikes to carry snacks such as Untapped Maple waffles for unexpected low blood sugars
  • Put a journal in a ziplock bag or Ortlieb waterproof bag. How does time in nature make you feel?
